What Are Compound Butters?

Compound butters are softened butter blended with flavorful ingredients such as herbs, spices, citrus zest, cheese, or sweet additions like honey and fruit. These versatile butters enhance the taste of both savory and sweet dishes with minimal effort.

How to Use Compound Butters

  • Cooking & Grilling: Melt over grilled meats, seafood, or roasted vegetables for an instant flavor boost.

In the ingredients are two butters that include the amounts, followed by some other butter combination ideas.

Ingredients
Garlic Butter
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic, or more to taste
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt, or more to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, or more to taste
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper, or more to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon ground paprika, or more to taste

 

Bourbon Butter
  • 4 sticks unsalted butter, softened, divided
  • 1 large shallot, minced
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • ¾ cup bourbon
  • 3 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 ½ teaspoons lemon zest
  • salt to taste
 
Garlic & Herb Butter: Ingredients: Minced garlic, chopped parsley, chives, thyme, and a touch of lemon zest.
Honey & Cinnamon Butter: Ingredients: Honey, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg.
Sun-Dried Tomato & Basil Butter: Ingredients: Finely chopped sun-dried tomatoes, fresh basil, and a hint of garlic.
Blue Cheese & Chive Butter: Ingredients: Crumbled blue cheese and finely chopped chives.
Lemon & Dill Butter: Ingredients: Lemon zest, lemon juice, and fresh dill.
Maple & Bacon Butter: Ingredients: Maple syrup and crispy, finely chopped bacon.
Roasted Red Pepper & Feta Butter: Ingredients: Roasted red peppers, crumbled feta cheese, and a touch of garlic.
Sriracha & Lime Butter: Ingredients: Sriracha sauce, lime zest, and a dash of lime juice.
Truffle & Parmesan Butter: Ingredients: Truffle oil, grated Parmesan cheese, and a hint of black pepper.
Cranberry & Orange Butter: Ingredients: Dried cranberries, orange zest, and a splash of orange juice.
Chipotle & Lime Butter: Ingredients: Chipotles in adobo, lime zest, and cilantro.
Blue Cheese & Walnut Butter: Ingredients: Crumbled blue cheese, toasted walnuts, and chives.
Miso & Sesame Butter: Ingredients: White miso paste, toasted sesame seeds, and scallions.
Sun-Dried Tomato & Basil Butter: Ingredients: Minced sun-dried tomatoes, fresh basil, and garlic.
Anchovy & Caper Butter: Ingredients: Minced anchovies, capers, lemon zest, and parsley.

How to Make and Store Compound Butters

Making Compound Butter:

  1. Soften the Butter – Let unsalted butter sit at room temperature until soft but not melted.
  2. Mix in Ingredients – Blend in herbs, spices, cheeses, citrus zest, or sweet additions using a fork, spoon, or food processor.
  3. Shape the Butter – Scoop the mixture onto parchment paper or plastic wrap, roll it into a log, and twist the ends.
  4. Chill or Freeze – Refrigerate for at least an hour to firm up, or freeze for long-term storage.

Storing Compound Butter:

  • Refrigerator: Store in an airtight container or wrapped log for up to one week.
  • Freezer: Wrap tightly and freeze for up to three months. Slice off portions as needed.

🌄 Why No Pictures: Well, there ARE some pictures, here and there. But to be honest, if you need pictures showing you how to stir something, you shouldn't be cooking! And really, I find them annoying when all I want to do is look at the recipe! Also, we haven't made most of these recipes. We occasionally take pictures of the finished product when we remember!
💯 Why There Are Recipe Numbers Missing: Well, it's like this. The recipe numbers are automatically generated by the database, always using a new number for a new recipe. Over the last 20 years many recipes, mostly test recipes, have been added and then deleted, leaving only their memory and their number behind. And there was also a lot of weird stuff going on in the beginning, which messed up the order. In terms of date added, the first one is #6, then #4, #9, #10, #4, #718!!!, #2, and finally #1. Just the way databases and poor programmers work!
