Uncle Dave’s Third Annual Birthday Billython (UDTABB) – The Clown Returns: Day Four (Happy Birthday To Me!) – Afternoon Interlude

The weather has turned lovely!
Well, I am back at the RCA, only to find that the maid has not left me any washcloths! Might as well be in London at the Cherry Court. To be honest, the maid service this trip has sucked, and I leave $2 every morning on my pillow.
Anyway, this has already been a big walking day.
Went to breakfast at Junior’s. They seem to have a crisp bacon issue this trip, as in they can not make it, even upon request. But otherwise very nice.
Then I was on to a Macy’s in search of Burberry Classic cologne, which for some stupid reason they were out of. How does that happen?? So I bought Pleasures, which I also enjoy. But then later as I was walking around 59th and 5th and that general area, I passed several stores that prolly had the Burberry, but I decided to wait.
Anyway, After walking to Macy’s and back – I try to avoid cabs and the subway system when possible, I stopped at the RCA to regroup, and then on to Columbus Circle for lunch with Hugsy.
Lovely lunch in the Whole Foods place in the Time-Warner building. Great buffet and I was very careful not to overdo it, but did anyway.
Thank you, Hugsy! This is the second year in a row she has treated me to lunch on my birthday in New York City.
Then it was on to FAO Schwarz, which was too awesome and I had to leave before I bought something. Then to Dylan’s Candy Bar.
Dylan’s was a serious disappointment. Last year, they had one whole section devoted to just malted milk balls, my favorite thing of all time. Maybe 15 different kinds. Now they have three!!!! FAIL!!
So on the way back to the hotel, I over heard a bizarre conversation between a man with a long gray beard and a yarmulke and a less orhtodox looking man. They were discussing existence, with one saying that the only difference between us and a blade of grass was four pieces of the something something something – oh yeah, dna helix maybe? Anyway, the yarmulke man said that the world was beautiful and their debate – then he said, “no, conversation” – was pure music and therefore their must be a great composer. Not sure if he was going for God on this one but I was on his side.
Now later, I wanted to use Dragon dictation on my iPhone to record some thoughts. Here is what DD came up with: “Fresh most amazing at all is well. This number four and talking and sirens going on delivery your sirens 24 hours a day is probably not more by Chubo bye-bye. You don’t hear sirens”

And now, for a moment, as I rest up in my hotel room and get ready for my birthday dinner tonight, I want to get serious for just a moment. I can not even begin to imagine what it must have been like to have lived or worked in New York on 9/11. Or to live through the aftermath. But something I did notice today was that there are emergency vehicle sirens going off all day long in this city, you hear them maybe every 5 or 10 minutes. And sometimes, even for me, when I hear a lot of them, I wonder: is it happening again? Are the people of NYC so accustomed to it that they do not even notice? Or do they respond even more viscerally than I do, reliving the terror of that day? I can not imagine!

Birthday dinner tonight at Five Napkin Burger, and another show. What a great birthday this is!
